Jessi Joins the Green Team
August 30, 2008
I have seen Resource Recovery in action and it is the future! It was all part of my trip to Denver as one of the 1,000 Green Team Volunteers that helped
make 2008's Democratic National Convention the greenest ever.
I spent my days encouraging convention goers to separate recycling and compost from landfill, and my nights elbow-deep in nacho-cheese-coated placards and half-eaten hotdogs giving the remains of the day one final sort before loading it all into massive compactors.
I gained terrific insight about what can be repurposed and how, and was especially impressed by the diversity of what can go to a commercial composting facility (anything that ever came from the earth can go back to the earth), all for the goal of 85% landfill diversion. It will be exciting to bring my experiences back to our studio so we can implement our own resource recovery program.
What an amazing time in our nation's history to be alive (and surrounded by mounds of biodegradable trash bags)!
